What is a tally counter?
A tally counter records how many times an event occurs. This digital tally counter keeps one or more labeled totals and can display a number, groups of five tally marks, or both. You record each event yourself; it does not detect events automatically. The Click Counter homepage remains a general workspace with several counting modes.
How to use the tally counter
Your first tally is ready at zero. Choose the large +1 or press Space for each event. Use -1 to subtract a mistaken count. Give the tally a label, such as Visitors or Items checked. Keyboard shortcuts pause while you type, focus a control, or open a dialog.
Use multiple tally counters
Choose Add tally for another category. Select a name in Your tallies to bring it into the main workspace. Each tally keeps a separate number and history; the small +1 beside a label counts directly into that tally without switching selection. More contains Rename, Set value, Reset, and Delete. Deletion requires confirmation, cannot be undone, and never removes the last tally.
Number, tally marks, or both
Number shows the running total. Marks draws four upright strokes and a diagonal fifth stroke to complete each group of five. Both keeps the number and marks together. Switching the display never changes your count. For large totals, the drawing is limited to 100 groups and tells you how many additional groups are not drawn; the total remains visible.
Set or correct a tally value
Set value replaces the selected total with an exact non-negative whole number. Reset returns it to zero. Undo reverses a count, subtraction, value edit, or reset; Redo restores it. Each tally retains up to 100 changes, and a new change clears only its own Redo. Use Z to undo and Shift+Z or Y to redo outside controls; Ctrl/Cmd+Z and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z also work.
Save, fullscreen, and offline use
Tallies save on this device, separately from the homepage, with no account or app download. Fullscreen keeps the selected name, display, and counting controls together; use Exit fullscreen to return. Browsers without fullscreen offer Focus mode. A successful cached visit lets you continue offline. Browser data is not a backup or cloud sync: copy down important totals before clearing it or changing devices. Existing single-tally names, values, and display choices are retained on upgrade; earlier correction history starts fresh. A saved, non-default homepage tally is imported once, as an extra tally if this workspace already exists. Existing tallies are not overwritten; the original homepage tally remains in its JSON backup.
Common tally counter uses
Keep a tally of people entering an event, items checked during inventory, completed repetitions, observations during fieldwork, or points in a casual game. Record one event at a time and use the five-mark groups to review small totals at a glance.
Tally Counter FAQ
Can I keep more than one tally at the same time?
Yes. Start with one tally and choose Add tally when you need another label. Select a tally to work on it, or use its small +1 button. Every tally keeps its own count and correction history.
Can I start a tally from a number other than zero?
Choose Set value and enter a whole number from zero to 4,503,599,627,370,495. Empty, fractional, negative, or out-of-range entries are not accepted. You can undo a value change.
What happens when I switch between Number, Marks, and Both?
Only the display changes; every count stays the same. The display choice applies to all tallies. Marks form groups of five. Large counts show a limited drawing and an exact numeric total.
Can I undo a reset or accidental count?
Yes. Undo and Redo work on the selected tally, including counts, subtractions, Set value, and Reset. Up to 100 recent changes per tally are saved. A new count or value change clears that tally's Redo. Selecting or renaming a tally does not add a history entry.
What happens if I delete a tally?
After confirmation, its name, count, and correction history are removed from this workspace. Deletion cannot be undone and does not affect other tallies. You must keep at least one tally; reset the last one instead. Adding tallies is not part of Undo or Redo.
Where are my tallies saved?
Names, counts, display choice, selection, and correction history save in this browser on this device, separately from the homepage. There is no account or cloud sync. Clearing browser data can erase them. Copy down important totals before clearing data; this page does not offer export. Older single tallies retain their name, count, and display when upgraded, but start a new correction history.
Can I use the tally counter offline?
After a successful online visit has cached the page, you can reopen it and keep counting offline in the same browser. An uncached first visit still needs a connection. Fullscreen is available where the browser supports it; otherwise Focus mode keeps the workspace in view.
