Japa & Mala Counter

Count Japa, Jaap, or mantra repetitions with a private, local-first mala counter. Track beads, completed malas, goals, session history, and continue offline after the first successful visit.

What does a Japa counter track?

This manual counter records one deliberate repetition at a time. It shows the current bead, completed malas, and total repetitions without choosing a mantra, deity, or religious practice for you.

How the 108-count mala cycle works

The default is a 108-count mala cycle. When the last bead is counted, the tool shows 108 / 108 and Mala complete. The next deliberate tap starts the next mala at 1 / 108.

Beads, malas, and total repetitions

A bead is one repetition. A mala is one completed cycle. Total repetitions remains the exact sum of completed malas and the current partial mala.

Choose a mala size

An empty session can use 108, 54, 27, or a custom whole-number size from 1 to 9999. Finish or reset a non-empty session before changing the size.

Session goals and history

Set a goal in completed malas, then continue counting after the goal is reached. Finish a session to archive its duration, size, progress, and total; undo and redo remain exact.

Offline use and privacy

After a successful visit, Japa can continue working offline. Practice names, progress, preferences, and finished-session summaries stay in this browser. No account or cloud sync is required.

FAQ

What happens on the next tap after a mala is complete?

After a mala is complete, the completed state stays visible until your next deliberate count. That next count starts the next mala at 1 while keeping the completed-mala total.

Why can’t I change the mala size after I start counting?

Mala size is locked once the session has repetitions or a completed mala so the existing totals remain meaningful. Finish or reset the session before choosing 108, 54, 27, or a custom size from 1 to 9999.

How do I correct an accidental repetition?

Use −1 to remove one repetition, or Undo to reverse the most recent operation. If the mistake completed a mala, the correction also reverses that completion.

What happens after I reach my mala goal?

The status reports Goal reached when completed malas meet the goal, but counting continues; the tool does not stop or reset automatically.

Can I use my own practice or mantra name?

Yes. The practice name is a private local label that you can edit, such as Morning Japa or Main Practice.
